Sometimes, decoration can get very expensive, and in such times, we are at a loss as to how to go about the whole process. We feel the pocket pinch, we know that the bank balance isn’t too high, yet we still want to make our homes look good. Here are some budget home decoration ideas.
The main thing to remember is that your home’s beauty is not determined by the number of expensive things within it. Rather, it is good taste and creativity that matter. You need to maintain the personality and harmony in your home. Once you keep those basic principles in mind, you are all set to go with budget decorating, when your finances don’t allow otherwise.
A great way to go about the process is to add some drama to the walls. If you can’t afford a new coat of paint by professional painters, then simply buy some paint and paint it yourself, and get creative while doing it! Paint it plain blue or light green, and then add some designs. You would be surprised how easy it is – just remember to use good quality paint and sealant. Once this is done, you could add some nice pictures or photo frames to the wall to brighten up the zing.
Another great budget decoration idea is to add colorful cushions in and around the rooms. Cushion covers don’t cost much – buy different ones in various shades and sizes, and keep them on your sofa, on your bed, and some even on the floor. This makes your home look much more casual and inviting!
A good way to go about budget home decoration is to combine – mix non-expensive items with expensive items. Instead of stacking all the expensive knick-knacks in one corner, mix them up!
Budget Decorating Ideas When Selling Your Home
During my interview with Interior Designer, Kathy Wilson, she provided a number of great ideas for getting your house ready to sell even if you have a small budget.
Friends of mine from the Atlanta suburbs recently sold their 3000 foot home. They committed to living a simpler life and downshifted to a 2 bedroom, 2 bath townhome in the city. This significantly reduced their commute, the time they spend cleaning house, and best of all (they tell me) they aren’t spending their weekends doing yard work.
Fortunately, my friends had great luck selling half of their home’s furniture on Craigslist. They are convinced that they really received far more value for their furniture by listing it there instead of putting the furniture on consignment or by selling it at their garage sale. How would you recommend going about the interior design decorating when downshifting your lifestyle?
- Kathy Wilson
When downsizing the most important thing to remember is you will have to get rid of a lot more than you think! Keep only what you need, and if you can’t stand the idea of selling some precious furnishings, consider gifting them to a family member to keep them in the family. That last thing your new digs needs is to be packed so tight with “stuff” you can’t enjoy your new home! Be ruthless!
What decorating ideas can you give to maximize a home’s interior design without spending any money?
- Kathy Wilson
This one is free…rearrange! Remember there is almost always more than one way to arrange a room, and the change can make a major difference in the rooms design. Try the whole room on the diagonal, or just the area rug. Pull the furniture away from the wall and make a comfortable grouping near the focal point. Tuck in a little reading corner. Search out the rest of your home for furniture and accessories that might fit better in the room you are transforming.

Planning is an important part of any project whether big or small. Half of the work is done if done with some prior planning. So before putting your money in any kind of project make a plan.
Next to this is the prioritizing the things you need. Make the list of the things and check which is the most important and which one is the least. With this you will be able to know what you can leave.
Once you are through with these go to your nearest bathroom stores to find out what is new and how much does this cost. This will help you to decide your budget further. Note down the accessories and their cost that you want to buy. If you are working within a budget constraint then you will have to be very specific here. You can even use the used things or the things that are already there in your bathroom.
Do not change the direction of the bathroom as then you will have to change the pipes. This will cost more. You can change the things that are not connected to pipes.
Use only good quality material as this will help you in long run. Also the maintenance of such material is less so you will save money on this as well. Also get it installed by professional so that things once done are done for a long time.
If you cannot afford marble flooring then there are other options like slate stone that is natural and very effective to be used on floor as well as backsplash of the bathroom. At the same time other synthetic material like faux marble or stone look like laminate or vinyl can also be used for bathroom countertop and flooring.
