Paul Surapine, Music Director and Conductor

In the fall, 2005, MetYSO welcomed Paul Surapine as the new Music Director.
Mr. Surapine graduated from Hartt School of Music and studied extensively with
Kalmen Opperman. His performance experience includes the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra,
Hartford Symphony Orchestra, and Hartford Chamber Orchestra. He has appeared at
Carnegie Hall in New York as a member of the Kalmen Opperman Clarinet Choir in
concert with Richard Stoltzman. He has also recorded with Stoltzman and the Kalmen
Opperman Clarinet Choir for RCA on the recording "Hark", a record of Christmas music.
Mr. Surapine is the Founder and Executive and Artistic Director of
The Claflin Hill Music Performance Foundation
based in Milford, MA. As such, he is the conductor of The Claflin
Hill Symphony Orchestra, The Claflin Hill Summer Winds, as well as the occasional principal clarinetist
for the CHSO. Mr. Surapine is a faculty member at The College of The Holy Cross,
Clark University, Worcester State College, and the Joy of Music Program in Worcester, MA, and Indian Hill
Arts in Littleton, MA.
He has resided in Milford, MA with his wife, Susan and two sons, Zachary and Joshua since 1992. |

Etleva Hima, Preparatory String Orchestra Director

Mrs. Hima-Buli is an Albanian native who started the violin when she was six and a half
years old at the Music School in Tirane. During those years she
studied with teachers such as Proletare Skenderi, Flora Klimi, and Pirro Gjezi. She continued
her studies in Bucharest, Romania where she had Master classes and
lessons with Stefan Georgiu and Serban Dimitrie Soreaunu. She got her Masters
Degree in Performance from the Boston Conservatory, where she was mentored by Ronan
Lefkowitz (BSO) and Judith Eisenberg of the Lydian String Quartet, and later Virginia Neikrug.
Mrs. Hima-Buli is a very active musician. She was the
founder member of New Horizon Piano Trio (2003-2005), and performer
at Salem Chamber Music Series in New York as recitalist and
orchestra player. She is the co-founder of Alberica Duo (Flute and
Violin) that recently had their debut recital.
Mrs. Hima-Buli teaches in Boston and in surrounding areas from
beginners to very advanced students. Her students have participated
in most prestigious youth orchestras in Boston and have won youth
competitions. She enjoys coaching orchestra and chamber music for
young musicians and has done so for NEC, BYSO, and MetYSO.
She plays frequently with orchestras such
as the Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra, Boston Landmarks
Orchestra, Opera Boston, Vermont Symphony Orchestra, and
occassionally with Emmanuel Music, Symphony by the Sea and Plymouth
Philharmonic as Assistant Concertmaster. Mrs. Hima-Buli has
performed under the conductors James Levine, Jamie Laredo, Gil Rose, Paul Surapine, Ronald Feldman,
Martin Perlman, Isaiah Jackson, Anthony Princiotti, William Cutter, Susan Wyner, Jarry Sicko,
Julian Wachner, and others.
She is married to Eldri Buli, TV journalist. |
