About MetYSO

Audition Eligibility

Admission to MetYSO is by audition, and is usually limited to musicians between the ages of twelve to eighteen. We will consider younger students on a case-by-case basis. Typically, members have studied privately for at least two years at the time of their audition, however we encourage exceptional students to contact us. MetYSO members must be studying with a private teacher during MetYSO's season. Most MetYSO members have some experience in ensemble play.

We are currently auditioning all instruments; however, please be advised that we may not be able to place everyone who is auditioned. We especially encourage brass players to audition. Generally, unless required by a piece we will perform, MetYSO does not audition guitar and saxophone. The audition committee will recommend placements into the MetYSO Orchestra or the Preparatory String Orchestra. Candidates who are not admitted to MetYSO at their first audition are always welcome to re-audition.

Audition Schedule

Auditions are held three times a year in May and in early September for the fall semester, and in early January for the spring semester. Auditions are next scheduled on May 18, 2008.
